An ordinary day, on this coast.

Guanacaste is a big province with a lot of beach towns, and they’re not the same. People ask us all the time which one to settle on. We could give you the checklist, and it’s a good one: 35 minutes from Liberia’s international airport, real banks and pharmacies, a hospital nearby, internet that just works, restaurants that stay open all year.
But honestly, the better answer is just to walk you through a day. So here’s an ordinary one, no special occasion.

6:30 am
A swim at Ocotal before the day warms up. The bay is calm in the morning, and you’ll mostly have it to yourself, give or take a few pelicans.
9:00 am
Coffee in town, then whatever your morning needs: a video call on fast internet, the bank, the pharmacy, the ferretería. Boring errands, which is exactly the point. This town has the infrastructure for a real life.

12:30 pm
Lunch is a casado at a soda for a few thousand colones, or fresh-caught fish if the boats came in generous. Season doesn’t matter; the kitchens here don’t close when the tourists thin out.

3:00 pm
Friends flying in? The airport run is 35 minutes, not a day trip. It’s the quiet superpower of this corner of the province: people actually visit.
5:30 pm
Sunset. Toes in the sand at Coco, or over the hill in Ocotal where it’s quieter and prettier if that’s more your speed. Nobody here has gotten tired of this part yet.

We wrote the fuller, honest comparison with the other beach towns here:
What makes Playas del Coco different from other Guanacaste beach towns
If you’re weighing a move or an investment and want to talk it through with someone who lives here, just reply. No pitch, we’re happy to give you the lay of the land.
